10 Summer fashion styles that work as hard as you do

Never too busy for style 10 pieces for easy summer dressing Michael Stars jumpsuit P448 sneakers

Have you ever seen the British film, Wallace and Gromit – The Wrong Trousers? That’s how I feel about summer 2020! All the normal rules about dressing have gone out the window. Dedicated work, play and party clothes? Ha! Blazers are a distant memory. And what are heels again?!

Yet, even though our worlds may have shrunk, our roles seem to have expanded. Teacher, lunch lady, housekeeper, entertainer, remote worker perhaps…?

That’s why I was thrilled when Minneapolis-based retailer, Evereve, offered to help our closets keep up. Formerly known as “Hot Mama,” this store knows about dressing for a busy day. Together, we found 10 pieces that’ll get us from running a virtual meeting to running errands to running after the kids – all while staying comfy, cozy and current.

#1 Jumpsuit + #2 sweatshirt

PULLOVER - CHASER

PULLOVER - CHASER

When it comes to versatility, there are few better places to start than with the jumpsuit. This is a trend with legs (sorry!), offering the freedom of pants with the ease of a dress and so enduring it’s almost timeless. If you haven’t jumped on the jumpsuit train yet, now may be the time. A simple silhouette like this off-the shoulder style from Michael Stars can be dressed up as workwear (I added a Chaser pullover to stay warm at my desk) or down as loungewear - and is as comfy as your PJs. Try one and you too might become a convert 😊.

#3 Graphic tee + #4 jeans or cutoffs + #5 stretch jacket

JACKET - LEVEL 99

JACKET - LEVEL 99

‘Tis the season of making a statement - “Black Lives Matter,” “We are all in this together,” “Love is Love.” Perhaps it’s no surprise, then, that graphic tees are trending. We can make them motivating, like Evereve’s Sub Urban Riot one, political, rock n roll – or whatever you want to say with your outfit. Good alone, graphic tees also add a little edge to workwear with a jacket (thanks, Level 99 for keeping yours stretchy) and relaxed denim. Edwin nails the borrowed-from-the-boys look to complete this statement-making vibe.

#6 Flowy pants + #7 tank + #8 denim jacket

Does the idea of putting on dress pants and a blazer fill you with horror? Me too! This year is far from business as usual when it comes to workwear, but we can still look pulled together with softer versions of standard separates. Flowy trousers like these Peyton Jensen crops look like pants but feel like PJs. A shapely-but-soft jacket (try BlankNYC’S Part Time Lover) walks the casual-professional line. Underpinning everything with a well-cut tank, epitomized by Michael Stars, allows you to shed a layer when it’s time to leave your desk and venture outside.

#9 Voluminous dress + #10 button down

button down - cloth and stone

button down - cloth and stone

If there’s one item that epitomizes summer 2020 it’s the voluminous dress. Flowing frocks are fabulous whenever temps rise. Add in this year’s need for clothes that can go from professional to casual, and the loose dress is a perfect fit. Evereve’s version from Rails nails three trends in one: square neckline, tiered skirt and white. Layer on a button down, like this Cloth & Stone multitasker for meetings, and some sharp sneakers (thanks P448) for running around outside and we’re good to go from morning to night.

A big “thank you” to Evereve for providing clothes for this post - while the opinions are all my own. However challenging this summer may be, I hope this post at least makes dressing a little easier.
